Scanning Newcastle University

The BIM.Technologies team have been hard at work throughout 2012. Much of their time has been spent on site with their scanner where they are at their happiest.

The team recently received a commission from Newcastle University who have implemented a strategic plan to digitally survey their whole estate. BIM.Technologies have been on site at the Armstrong building for 4 weeks. This will be followed by processing and modelling to allow the information to be used during the upcoming refurbishment.

The survey is fully intrusive and has included all roof voids, basements and plant rooms. For this reason the team have been working nightshift to minimise disruption to the university.

The team are also pricing surveys for Sheffield University and Manchester City Council. The increase in interest suggests that building owners understand the long term benefit of a 3D digital survey, for the long term management of their assets.

bimstore 2.0

On 1st April 2012 bimstore.co.uk became a year old.  It has been quite a year for the site, with new customers and new developments with the software.  The industry is really starting to embrace BIM and it is becoming more and more relevant to manufacturers.

To mark the occasion we will be updating the look, feel and functionality of the site.  We have listened to feedback and made the search function simple and very prominent on the site.

We have provided more information for manufacturers so they can easily understand how they can benefit.

We have also developed an app to complement the search function, which designers can use when working within their chosen software.  This means they can search for content directly within their software.

bimstore has now become more than just a website.  It is an ecosystem for components to be used within building information models.  New partnerships with other information providers mean bimstore shares components far and wide.

We are also providing libraries for constructors and designers, giving manufacturers excellent access to specifications.

The team continue to work on new developments as we continue to redefine how manufacturers information is searched for and specified.

The Tower in London

BIM technologies have recently secured a commission to work on a new landmark in London. Working as BIM coordinators the team are working with AHMM architects, AKT and Hilson Moran to produce an integrated BIM for a major new landmark for London.
BIM technologies were appointed by Great Portland Estates to develop the integrated model to pass to the constructor and ultimately the operator of the building.
Initially the BIM technologies team produced protocols and standards for the existing team to work within. The three separate models were then brought together and refined.
The model has now been adopted by Mace who have been appointed as main contractor. They wil use the model for clash detection and programming throughout construction.
When completed the £60million, 16 storey tower off Blackfriars bridge will be the new home of United Business Media the parent company of BD and Building magazines..

New Home for the London Team

For the past 6 months the _space London team have been operating out of an office close to Kings Cross, off Euston road.  As interest in our services has increased we have quickly outgrown the space.

The team have now taken space from international design practice BDP in their Clerkenwell Offices. This will provide space for the growing team, as well as a base for meetings in the capital.
The BIM.Technologies team will also be providing regular specialist input into BDP projects as adoption grows across the company.

Bim Show Live 2012

Following the success of last year’s inaugural BIM Show live 2011, _space group in conjunction with United Business Media, will be hosting the event again in 2012.

Last year the show was a sell out with over 300 delegates.  This year we are targeting 500 delegates over 2 days.  The event will be hosted again at the Business Design Centre in London on May 10th and 11th.

The conference brings together a range of seminars and keynote sessions across the complete construction cycle and focuses on the current state of the art across the industry.

The seminar sessions have been developed following a call for entries from the industry.  An excellent cross section of speakers have now come forward from a range of software platforms from both the public and private sector.

As well as the conference, there will be an exhibition showing off the latest software, hardware and services available.  The event is being supported by all major software vendors including Autodesk, Bentley and Graphisoft.

The event is again sponsored by _space group specialist division BIM.Technologies who continue to lead the way in implementation in the UK
